An imager just sent me a note with his deep image of the M13 clouds.

It lines up really well with our visual sketches.

Just uploaded v2 of the Shk Guide. The link to the draft version is now offline.

Hi all y'all,
Here is the near final draft of the Shk Group observing guide. Take a look and let me know what you think.

I bet you are saying what the heck is “Gottliebs” circle. Last May Steve Gottlieb and I were observing together...
Hey deep sky hounds,
Some of you are aware that I'm working on the new revision of my Shk observing guide. New groups, enhancements, etc.
I looked back at my notes and I was shocked that I...
While at our Leakey, Tx dark site (we were there for a weeks observing culminating with the Apr 8th Eclipse) we had some very good nights observing. For the most part good seeing and transparency but...
Jim Chandler and I got a chance to observe this little grouping of galaxies on the Saturday night preceding the Eclipse. We were working through Larry Mitchell's list he made up for the TSP Eclipse...
Nice gem Paul,
Frank and I were at the observatory when you visited NGC 3445.
I also found an observation and sketch with my 27". For the PGC I took a look at my notes and find: "stellarlike,...
Hi Robin,
like Jimi already said we saw the parts like in Fig. 4, around 2'x3'. The red structure in the middle was not visible.
Important note I forgot. I also tried the PN with my 27" under...
I also have an observation of NGC 3445 using Jimi's 48" dob back in May 2012, along with Paul! This was on the last of 5 nights we were observing together (Jim Chandler had cleaned the mirror during...
For me the part I could see and only a small percent of the time as it would pop in and out is the purple color in figure 12 of the paper. There was no structure just a smuts that would come and go.
There's an interesting tidbit regarding MCG +10-16-024. It was missed by William and John Herschel (not surprising), but it was discovered visually in March 1856 with Lord Rosse's 72-inch Leviathan....

NGC 3445 is a one-armed spiral galaxy located in...
Congratulations! That sounds exciting! Did you see the part of the nebula that appears "bright" and elongated on figure 6 of the discovery paper or did you see the rather small and triangle-shaped...
Hi Jimi,
thanks to write up the first sighting of the new discovered PN. I just had contact with one of the discoverer (Peter Riepe). He was amazed about our observation. He spoke about 25...
Hi Akarsh,
nice write up and great OOTW.
Last time I visited NGC 5139 was only a few day ago, you know from where. In Jimi's 48" we looked at the glob with around 287x and we were IN. With bad...

The best view I had of Omega Centauri was from Namibia in 2022. I decided to sketch it at the lowest possible magnification (Nagler 31mm), to seemingly shrink the cluster to somewhat acceptable...
A paper about Omega Centauri was published on ArXiv today. The paper is about a very detailed study of nearly 1.4 million stars in the cluster and discusses the proper motion of the stars and the...
Hi here's my observation from 3/24/2017 : Ngc 5139 globular cluster in Centaurus ; aka Omega Centauri ; magnitude: 3.68 ; size: 45' x 37' ; the largest and brightest of all globular clusters ; this...
