Some of the unusual objects I have observed this April.

Burcins Ring (PGC 1000714)

This unusual Hoag type ring galaxy is not so easy. It is near the bright spiral galaxy NGC 3660 which makes Burcins ring field easy to fine. I have observed this galaxy several nights this and last dark period. I have only been able to detect 1/4 of the ring at brief moments with a ZAO 6MM @ 813X. In the image below you can see at 5 o'clock the brighter part of the ring that I was able to catch.

This unusual galaxy merger has a small dwarf (Was 49b)with a super massive black hole trying to merge with the larger galaxy. Was 49 is not far from Hickson 61(The box)and is a easy star hope from it. This small merger was seen at 610X as a fairly faint small spiral with a faint stellar core. Was 49b was seen as a star like object near the edge of the host galaxy. Was 49b appeared brighter than the core of the host galaxy. To me this is a very cool object!

Leoncino Dwarf Galaxy (AGC19861)

Leoncino Dwarf is the most metal poor galaxy that has been found so far. It was a very difficult observation and only appeared 7 times in the eyepiece @ 813X. It is a very small galaxy but I did note that it looked elongated. This elongation I later verified by an SDSS image. This is a extremely faint dwarf and I was surprised that I was able to catch it. I would bet that this was the first visual observation of this galaxy.

HE 1106-2321 Quasar

He 1106-2321 is a bright quasar (14.8V Mag) with a light travel time of 1.08 BLY. What is unusual about this quasar is some unusual extension that stick out of it. I am not sure if they are jets or arms. when I observed it @ 813X the jets? were easily held with AV and appeared as short faint extensions. I looked at the references and could not find anything about them. What do you think they are?
