I'm wondering if anyone has made a comprehensive list of observable local group galaxies. I find these to be some of the most challenging targets for visual observers, and I would like to see as many as I can before my 40s. Unfortunately now with the solar maximum or whatever's causing the brighter skies (https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/868085-night-sky-getting-brighter/), it's a challenge to go after these, but hopefully I'll get some chances in the upcoming years.

The de facto list I know of is the one presented in Steinicke's book. It contains 38 entries, and observations for 24 of them. Have there been any additions / removals from this list? Does anyone have their own list they'd like to contribute?

Which ones did you observe and with which telescope?

I'll dig up my observations when I get back home.

"Steinicke's book"? You are being pretty vague there, Akarsh. But I'm assuming you mean Galaxies and How to Observe Them my Jakiel and Steinicke. I don't own a copy, but got to read through one once. I don't recall the list in the book, but wish I had it now!

Here is my list of galaxies that I've observed. If you've got a list of candidates for me to try for go after, I'm all ears!

Tom Polakis wrote an article in the old Deep Sky magazone about these and his observations with a 13" (I tihnk) I am sure you will have seen more with your 5" though. Will try and find the reference. And yes it was Wolfgangs book on Galaxies and How to Observe them that had the section on the Local group

There is a manual "Galaxy Groups and Clusters" from the Astronomical League, $20
https://store.astroleague.org/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
There are galaxy trios, Hickson compact galaxies, Abell galaxies and additional groups for a grand total of 250 objects!

Not really comprehensive but with lots of observations in it Akarsh. When you use a translator you will perhaps get some information in my German written "Lokale Gruppe" project (http://www.deepsky-visuell.de/Projekte/Lokale_Gruppe.htm).
