The area around NGC 507 is a wonderful playground for galaxy hunters. I could recall two old S&T articles (one by Steve Gottlieb) mentioning the many galaxies in this area, so I decided to check the area out. My usual practice is to have a "first look" in the area, and then read about it, in the second attempt searching for obscure / difficult targets that may lie hidden... In the case of this area there were many galaxies! Literally, wherever I pointed the scope I could pick up some galaxies. I chose the field that seemed most interesting and went ahead to sketch. At home, I identified the galaxies I had fished out. The articles and Megastar indicate that I missed a couple of the smaller galaxies, but the seeing being somewhat bad I might have mistaken them for stars... In any case you can see NGC 494, 503, 504, 507, 508, and IC 1687 and 1690...

Good chance for me to test my new observation extraction script. I see 41 observations extracted from my collection. Yes this is a highly recommended project as you have pointed out S&T piece by SteveG on this group.

Thanks for the reminder of this great area!

I'll put this as an attachment so it does not 'clutter' the board readable area.
