The ESO have released a new Image of Abell 33 PN in Hydra. :shocked:

It will be well placed for observing this dark time. Its now on my list to revisit.

The picture shows a contrast change and it may be worth a re-visit to see if the dark vs light can be seen this next time. In April 2010 this is what I had seen from a semi-bright site as it approached a local light dome so it should yield the contrast mottling from a dark site. Thanks for the reminder on this APN Jimi.

I've had Abell 33 on my re-observe list for this spring but so far the weather gods have been against those of living in the Pacific Northwest, so here's an observation from 2010:

"Easier to see than Abell 31 (previous observation) and has a more definite perimeter. It's brighter along the edge overlapped by the brightest field star and the center of this PN is evenly illuminated. Best at 136x, 21.28 SQM"

You noted even illumination although your sky was 21.28. Can I assume you were using your 28"? Thanks
PS: Our new moons have been 'non-ideal' as well down here in bay area CA. We have had some sparse chances so at least there is that.

Hi Marko,

Yes that observation was with my 28 inch. I'm interested to se eif I can notice the undulating internal brightness shown in the photo from a darker site - maybe later this month...

Yes, that too is my goal for this object. Try to see the slight intensity variations in the disk.
