I'm planning to attend the OzSky "Southern Spring" Star Safari (http://www.ozsky.org/spring.asp) from October 15-22, and highly recommend this event (that's me on the ladder of the provided 30-inch scope in November 2015). This is a fairly small event -- 12 to 16 participants -- and all equipment (18-inch and larger scopes) is provided. I was also at the April 2016 star party (and others!) and the local amateurs organize a great event.
If anyone has questions or interest in observing the Magellanic clouds, along with a slew of great galaxies and clusters in Fornax, Sculptor, Grus, Indus, Pavo, Phoenix, Telescopium, Tucana -- let me know.
