NSOG of course, and I still like to look at Burnham's. But my fave these days is Scotty's _Deep Sky Wonders_ either the compilation or just the columns. ;)
Excellent sketch from what I can see...when I click on it the picture looks on the dim side...
I don't sketch everything, either. But I do note object, date, time, and usually make at least a short note about what it looked like. Many's the time I've been happy I have. ;)
I used to use and admire large scopes, bigdobs, till I got old and lazy. I still like looking through the big guns...but when it comes to my own scopes, I much prefer this little (8-inch f/5) guy or...
Well, I got through the Herschels. Maybe another 3,000 from the pre go-to days starting in 1965 (almost all my logs from the 1960s - 1989 were lost due to many moves in the 70s and the depredations...
Don, I think for a lot of us it comes from our novice days when our Jedi masters preached HIGH POWER IS EVIL, PADAWAN! lol
What I've concluded after many years? What makes the most difference is not the pedigree of the eyepiece, but the MAGNIFICATION. Most deep sky observers use too little rather than too much. Usually...
TV Panoptics. Used, they are not overly expensive, and are mucho bettero than a cotton-picking plossl. ;-)
I've never worried about anything but azimuth and that star two isn't too low. Polaris is my Star One, always, and Procyon and Fomalhaut take up the slack the rest of the year. Polaris and a star...
I am just not there yet tablet-wise. Things may be changing, but at this time the tablet paradigm with astronomy is still "What can I stand to give up?" ALSO, for the way I work, a tablet wouldn't be...
--Must be a lot colder where you live. I have never, ever had to exercise the 12volt option. Not once.
--At the lower setting I find brightness just right.
--I do wish the keypad were...
I don't care pea turkey about printed maps anymore. I wouldn't mind a tablet, but it would have to run SkyTools and Deep Sky Planner. I understand that might be possible with some of the Windows...
The Argo Navis is fine...but for me all its features are an annoyance more than a help when I am using DSCs. Best damn unit I have ever used in every respect? Sky Commander. ;-)
Most planetarium programs will allow you to print an all-sky chart with east and west reversed. But it's going to be a mirror image. Not sure why you'd want to do this...but you can.
What's an "Ethoi"?.. Sorry I just don't like those plurals...too much for this good old boy, I reckon. :D
Anyhow...I am always surprised when people say they can't see the whole field of the...
...in the Xtreme. But in the 15-inch Dobbie next door? Not so much... :-(
Here is the little feller on Saturday the 13th with my good old C8, Celeste, and the Mallincam Xtreme at f/4 and 14 seconds...

Let us not forget the infamous Aintno 1 http://www.astronomy-mall.com/Adventures.In.Deep.Space/aintno.htm ;-)
The Deloses (I find "Deloi" and "Ethoi" a little precious for this old boy's tastes....LOL) are both good eyepieces. The Deloses are fine--I always loved the Panoptics--but they cannot compare to an...
Excellent drawing. Me? The comet and the galaxy were blow you away cool with my C8 and Mallincam Xtreme. In a buddy's 15-inch Dobbie? Not so much. The comet was considerably dimmer than I expected....
I use the 13 Ethos, and am convinced this is the best eyepiece I have ever used. However, the 14 ES is also a fine ocular, and you would be very well-served by it! The Delos eyepieces? Not my cup of...
Twice a month, weather permitting. I would get out more if I could observe from home or if the job wasn't quite the witch with a capital "b" it is now. That being the case, I try to maximize my time...
And have a look at this: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/davis-mountains
The park is basically "across the street" from Prude. I have never tried to observe from the park, but Miss...
Why leave it at the Herschel 400? Do what I did and go for the Whole Big Thing, the 2500. Best project I ever undertook.
