Thanks Jimi,
We had a lot of fun with this one! Not sure on getting out there anytime soon. Maybe this fall if the stars align...
While at our Leakey, Tx dark site (we were there for a weeks observing culminating with the Apr 8th Eclipse) we had some very good nights observing. For the most part good seeing and transparency but...
Jim Chandler and I got a chance to observe this little grouping of galaxies on the Saturday night preceding the Eclipse. We were working through Larry Mitchell's list he made up for the TSP Eclipse...
Funny...I looked at this one years ago in the 25". Megastar shows it as a supernova remnant so that's how I flagged it!
I looked at this galaxy about 10 years ago at TSP. In my 25" I noted that it "was kinda of H shaped of very low SB. Had to sweep the area a few times to see. More resembles a diffuse planetary nebula"
I am in the process of printing charts for TSP and noticed this interesting galaxy just 30' NW of Arp-Madore 4. This looks like a very interesting galaxy similar in appearance to NGC5128. It is...
Eta Carina from the 10th floor of the San Luis resort hotel. Galveston, Tx. 10x50 binoculars on a very clear and cold night. The nebula was about 1 degree above the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Has anyone here visually observed the lensed quasar HE 0435-1223? Simbad has the actual coordinates at 04-38-14.88 -12-17-14.6 which puts it in Eridanus.
There is a nice photo of the quasar in...
Someone posted on Cloudy Nights what appears to be an un-catalogued nebula. Looks like a big planetary or SN remnant. I will be out tonight with my 25" and will give it a go.

Just got back from an observing night on the 82" at the McDonald. We observed the parachute under pretty good skies. In the 41mm Pan (400x) the a,b and c components formed a nice little curve with a...
From Don P.
By the way, has anyone seen more objects than Larry Mitchell? I'd bet his "favorites" list was larger than the entire Herschel Catalogue.
Probably not as prolific as one would think....
Einstein hit the nail on the head when he showed that since gravity has "energy" then via e=mc2 gravity has mass and therefore gravity....all very circular but it seems to serve us well. I am not so...
Absolutely! I do not observe DStars as a rule but I will include them in my star hop. The edges of my old Uranometria's are full of Dstar notes.
Preston,
The Pal's are very similar to observing the Terzans, tough sons of guns! The brighter ones look like globs...no big surprise there but the fainter ones can best be described as "faint...
