Hi Andreas. Welcome! Where are you at in Germany? Me and some friends sometimes go to the area around Dömitz and Göhrde where it's really dark still.
I collected a few fresh photons for your viewing pleasure.
Nothing much to look at, I know. But since this pic is made of only 5 frames of 180s each I am pretty happy with the result. Also I used...
Well, the Sumerian I posted back in #76 has been sold. I am now rocking a All-City Nature Boy singlespeed cyclocross instead :-) but.... I had an old 8" from the seventies or eighties in the shed...
My 10" portable dobsonian by Sumerian Optics. I think this scope is the ideal compromise between aperture en portability. And it's virtually invisible when packed up which makes the missus very happy...
I have seen 891 several times in my (now sold) LB 12" from suburban skies (meh....) and through my 10" Sumerian Optics under a 21.75 avg sky in Germany (wow!)
One of the best edge-ons, or easiest...
When Victor says he did not see it, than it means I didn't. I place less trust in my mind than his logging of observations :-)
Which begs the question: what the heck did I see. We will never know. ...
I definately have seen it in my 12" Lightbridge and also in the 12" LX200 of forum member Victor (Clear_Skies). With an OIII filter only and needed to blink it in order to confirm it's position.
I think I read somewhere that Dark Skies Apparel quit? But they might have some stock left.
Gonna give this a go in Germany next New Moon. But only with good transparency and seeing ('cause I use a 10")
Interesting read, thanks! I find 7008 a little hard to starhop to every time I watch it. But it is a really cool PN even in my modest 10" scope.
Thank you, Howard. It is quite remote, I know. So it's a challenge.
How far away is the nearest point where I can get supplies like food and water? I cannot possibly take with my two gallons of...
I am planning on going for a 3 week offroad/gravel cycling trip through Oregon in 2017, together with my father. Besides expecting to see really awe inspiring scenery I would really love to stay at...
I know the app (in fact is it made by another Dutch guy I know from my public observatory work) but I find my 8.9" (or 10" screens at that) too small to have the overview I want. Yes, you can zoom in...
Inspired by Clear Skies (or rather I was sort of indoctrinated by him ^_^) I have used an iPad Mini retina last April while observing. With a thick piece of PVC, the screem dimmed to its max there is...
Hi all. I've been mainly leeching this forum until now but my activity as an amateur has been shifting to less observing while getting more out of it. I'm hoping I might go and contribute to this...
Great stories, Victor! And an amazing site at Spruce Knob. Looking at The Netherlands it is clear to me why not so many countrymen are interested in the universe. They simply cannot see any of it....
