Hm... I was unable to resolve the lobe structure in my 16", but I should have been with the power I was using. Perhaps seeing conditions were the culprit.
Akarsh... just FYI that PN in Vela should still be easily visible to you in Austin... I caught it at very similar latitude at TSP. Though I grant that it's probably nicer from Bangalore with a tad...
I'm getting all of them as they become available... anyone else here doing that?
Comprehending Lord Rosse's observations is quite the tall order... remember he's the guy who thought the Crab Nebula warranted that moniker :D
Only roughly 400 here, but most of it was in just the last three years, so I may be in you guys' territory in a couple of decades
Actually the Crab Nebula is a bad example of your point. That name was derived from a really bizarre sketch of the object from Lord Rosse's visual observation of it in his 36". Despite Lord Rosse's...
This is almost identical to my observation of it, with the same aperture and nearly the same magnification and conditions.
Curious about one thing though... I didn't feel at all certain that one...
Great selection! I loved 7008 when I observed it last year in my 16". The structure was very evident, especially with the OIII filter on. Definitely a uniquely shaped planetary.
But you're...
