Uwe great suggestion NGC 2146 is one of my favorite galaxies. I like the nickname “Dusty Hand Galaxy”
I had forgotten that you and I discussed NGC 4753 with Steve Odewahn and he called it the evil galaxy. I remember him saying it was a most unusual type of galaxy and was of much interest to his...

Fantastic drawing and observation. The transparency must have been amazing.
Mel what power were you using for this drawing?
Welcome to Deep Sky Forum Peter. I look forward to your post.
Akarsh would this be classified as a Jellyfish Galaxy? I thought Jellyfish galaxies were only in galaxy clusters? It sure looks like a Jellyfish.
Here is a size comparison of IC 1101 to the Milky Way.

ESO 565-11 is a rare and unique type of bared spiral. It has at least 10 H II knots that form a ring around the nucleus of the galaxy. This is...
I want to think I have heard reports of people seeing IC 1101 with a 10” under dark skies.
Yes I have seen it. It is in the Arp Madore Southern Peculiar galaxy catalog. I think if I remember right that it is thought to be a polar ring type galaxy.

The only way to know for sure is to get a spectrum of it. The gas in the galaxy looks really disturbed with lots of star forming knots. It certainly looks like it is interacting. But on the other...
Fabulous drawing Mathias!
Thanks for the information to clear up who named it the Spider. I had a hunch it was VV.

I have observed this most unusual galaxy group many times over the years. I have found it best on nights of excellent seeing at powers of 800X and up. I will never forget the first time when the...
