Before the previous summer it was already announced that the Gaia second data release would happen in April 2018. Today the official date for DR2 was announced: April 25, 2018. This data release will contain the positions, brightnesses, proper motions and parallaxes for 1.3 billion sources. The positions will be 1 milli arc second or better.
