Supposed unknown Galaxies in Gemini

Hi Folks,
i have been sweeping through wikisky yesterday and found 3 galaxies. In my opinion nice field because there is a tiny and thin PGC and one main star of the gemini constellation framing it... Following a screenshot of wikisky...

I could not find anything to these smudges in SIMBAD/ Aladin (no catalogue entry at all - at least not visible for me), so these 3 guys are waiting for the community with big instruments and the attitude of a discoverer :-)

The moon disturbs right now but maybe you happen to catch it within the next weeks...

Hi Norman,

Wow this could really be a discovery! I just looked up the coordinates in the PanSTARRS survey. The two objects can be seen there and look the same. So they are no ghosts of the bright star.

But they appear to be very faint. The PGC galaxy is listed as 16.67 blue mag and looks bright on that image.

Did you report it to Deep Sky Hunters?

Yes, i also checked it in PanSTARRS for the same reason like you.

No, i didn´t report it to DSH. A few years ago i also found a few galaxies that i put into the group for discussion. I was told galaxies are of no further interest because there would have been too much of them. I don´t know what they found but the ones i found look quite big in my opinion. At least i haven´t come across that much none-found galaxies. Most of even the tiniest galaxies are having an LEDA-Nr. or at least an entry in 2mass.

At least the PGC could be visible under very good skies in my 12 "... i will give it a try.

And i know - you will try all of them - don´t you

Guys never use WikiSky as a resource for anything. If you use Aladin and overlay the NED database then you can see all three of these galaxies have been identified in the WISE survey, and others. SIMBAD should not really be used for extragalactic objects. Sorry for you losing your moment of fame

I only use wikisky for practical reasons. For checking object numbers/catalogues i take aladin lite just as i linked... But there is no NED database.
I did download Aladin in full version a few years ago - but then my notebook has been damaged. Since then no new download ;-)

when it already has been detected by WISE - why is it also "discovered" at AmAstro? Years before WISE?
