What a surprise to have M 78 as a first light within the OOTW section.
Nice observation and sketch Howard. After my experience the object is visible through nearly all aperture but changes its appearance dramatically. Especially the fainter westerns parts around NGC 2067 depends and changes with aperture, exit pupil and transparency.
First I was a little bit shocked about the differences between our sketches. But rotating the sketches and consider the different aperture both sketches complement each other.
