UGC 4599 is a rare and unusual Hoag-Type ring galaxy. Like Hoags Object how it formed is unknown at this time. What makes it unusual is it has a elliptical type core that is surrounded by a ring of star forming with H II knots.

Its been a few years since I have viewed this unusual galaxy. My brief notes say that the ring was visible a small percent of the time as it popped in and out with the seeing. I have it on my list to revisit this Winter and look forward to hearing you're observations of this unusual ring. I hope you will try this galaxy and what ever you see of this galaxy remember this is a rare type of object with very few examples of this type of galaxy.
